Egyptian Jewellery: My Newest Collection: Bringing the Past to Life

I have made a new collection of Egyptian Jewellery inspired by the  “Made in Egypt ” exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.

This exceptional exhibition is the first to use new research techniques to explore the domestic, everyday lives of the craftspeople who created the beautiful jewellery, carvings, paintings and ceramics that dazzle and fascinate visitors who see them at the world’s great museums.  It reveals in detail the processes, tools and materials they used in making these artifacts, and how often they recycled these materials to create new work.  Many of the paintings show the creative process itself.

The exhibition at the Fitzwilliam is an intellectual as well as an aesthetic journey:  it links these artifacts with their makers and the beliefs and ideas of the royal, rich and powerful Egyptians who commissioned them. These beautiful things were not superficial adornments or possessions but imbued with the power to protect during life and enable the soul to journey after death from the tomb to rebirth.

The handmade jewellery in my Egyptian collection is unique, exclusive to the museum and only available at the museum shop.  I will add to it during the period of the exhibition.
